The Rorichumer Tief is a body of water in the municipality of Moormerland in the district of Leer in East Frisia .

course

The Rorichumer Tief branches off northwest of Timmel from the southern arm of the Fehntjer Tief , which flows from the Timmeler Meer to the confluence of the southern arm and the northern arm of the Fehntjer Tief in the border triangle of the communities of Moormerland , Ihlow and Großefehn . On its way through the municipality of Moormerland, it includes the Warsingsfehn Canal on the left and the Heuwieke on the right, both in the area of the municipality of Moormerland. The Rorichumer Tief flows roughly in an east-west direction and passes the eponymous town of Rorichum shortly before it flows into the Oldersumer Sieltief . In Oldersum the Rorichumer Tief flows into the Oldersumer Sieltief.

Over a period of several centuries it was used in its lower reaches to remove peat from the East Frisian Fehns , especially Warsingsfehn , Jheringsfehn and the surrounding area. The peat ships traveling on the canal brought the material on the East Frisian canal network to the villages of the Krummhörn. On their way back into the Fehnsiedlungen the Torfschiffer often took clay soil from the march and the manure of cattle with which they their home were dug fertilized land.
