Ross Turnbull (born January 4, 1985 in Bishop Auckland ) is an English football goalkeeper .
childhood
Turnbull attended Byerley Park Elementary School and then Woodham Community Technology College. In addition to his school education, he played in the local soccer team Newton Ayclife, but not in goal, but first in midfield. Coach Arthur Vickerstaff later retrained Turnbull to goalkeeping. Finally, various clubs like Sunderland tried to get the young goalkeeper, who, however, opted for the youth department of Middlesbrough FC .
Career
Middlesbrough
After holding positions in various youth teams, Turnbull signed a professional contract with Middlesbrough in 2002 . At the 2003 Junior World Cup he played for England . After various loan positions, which were usually limited to just three months, Turnbull was loaned to Cardiff City in July 2007 for a full season , where he was to replace Neil Alexander , who had left the club. After Turnbull made several mistakes, he was replaced by Michael Oakes. It so happened that he was brought back to Middlesbrough on October 5, 2007, after substitute goalkeeper Brad Jones was injured. Immediately after his return he played two games, because regular goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer was also out with a broken thumb. One of those games was a 2-1 win over Arsenal. After more than 11 years at Middlesbrough, Mark Schwarzer left the club for Fulham FC . Coach Gareth Southgate did not want to buy a new goalkeeper and had the space in the gate between Jones and Turnbull fought out. Jones played the first games of the season. When he got injured, Turnbull took the chance and stood between the posts for the rest of the season. In June 2009 Turnbull was offered a contract extension, which he refused.
Chelsea FC
On July 2, 2009 it was announced that Turnbull would move to Chelsea on a free transfer , where he signed a four-year contract. After signing, Turnbull announced that he hadn't come to sit on the bench and replace Petr Čech and that he would fight for a regular place. At the first game of the new season against Hull City, however, Turnbull was not even called into the squad, which is why the rumor arose that Turnbull had not been signed as number two, as previously assumed, but as number three. On the second day of the match, however, Turnbull was back on the bench.
Doncaster Rovers
After his contract with Chelsea had expired, Turnbull joined the Doncaster Rovers for the 2013/14 season , which had previously been promoted to the Football League Championship .
titles and achievements
Private
Turnbull is married and has a daughter and a son. His son gained attention in May 2013 as a two-year-old when he picked up a ball at the center line after the last game of the season and put it into the goal. The crowd cheered him and yelled "Sign him up!" (Eng. "Take him under contract!").
