The red deer park near Stuttgart , also known as the red deer and wild boar park , is a nature reserve (NSG) in Stuttgart .
The Wildpark district of Stuttgart emerged in 2001 from the “Rot- und Schwarzwildpark” district. The area was opened up for tourism through the Wildpark railway station until 1961 .
history
The park was laid out in 1815 under King Friedrich I. and stocked with 568 red deer and 138 fallow deer. Initially, only designated routes were accessible to citizens for a fee. The locks were only with the November Revolution in 1918. It is found in up to 400-year-old trees of the park service tree and the rare Speierling . Signs of a forest nature trail give interested parties more detailed information.
Nature reserve
The protected area in the west of the city was entered in the Reich Nature Conservation Book in 1939 with a size of 518.5 hectares . In 1958 the area with parts of the wild boar park and the Pfaffenwald on the north-east and south side was expanded to the current size of 830.5 hectares. The predominantly forested area was previously used as a hut forest . Today the forest is used for forestry and serves as a local recreation area .
The nature reserve is part of FFH area No. 7220–311 Glemswald and Stuttgarter Bucht . The nature reserve Büsnauer Wiesental borders directly to the south .
The nature reserve includes the three artificially created park lakes , the Roman House and the Bärenschlössle .
district
In administrative terms, the red and wild boar park was part of the Botnang area , which was incorporated into Stuttgart in 1922. In 1939 it was assigned to the inner city area, then in 1956 to the Stuttgart-West district . Until the year 2000, the district was classified as other residential space, on January 1, 2001 the red and wild boar park was renamed Wildpark and raised to a district within the city district of Stuttgart-West.
