geography

course

The red rises near the ski jump at the upper end of the slope of the L 1150 from Kirchenkirnberg to Kaisersbach at about 522  m above sea level. NN as Mosbach .

The red changes its name twice on its run. After the inflow of the first of the two left tributaries with the name Hagbach , it is then initially called Schwarze Rot instead of Mosbach . At the inflow of the right Finsteren Rot below the Hüttenbühlsee, whose own more significant right upper course from the direction of Kaisersbach (main line) is called Blinde Rot , with this upper course about the same length as it is and has a similarly large catchment area, she then puts down the epithet and becomes plain red .

After 11.1 km it finally flows in a southerly direction at 428  m above sea level. NN and about 2 km north of the center of Alfdorf an der Voggenberger Sägmühle from the left and north into the Lein .

Its course ends about 94 meters below its source, so it has an average bed gradient of 8.5 ‰.

Catchment area

The approximately 35 km² catchment area is drained from it via the Lein, Kocher , Neckar and Rhine rivers to the North Sea.

It extends from the ridge line of the Welzheimer Forest between Kaisersbach in the northwest and the Hagberg in the northeast, converging in a wedge shape to the south-southeast to the mouth. In addition to the municipalities already mentioned, the city of Welzheim , which is adjacent to the large right-hand tributary Finstere Rot, has a share in it .

In the north-west, on the other side of the west-east ridge line, smaller streams run to the upper Murr , in the north-east in the area of the Hagberg, Glattenbach and Rauhenzainbach drain over the more important “Fichtenberger” Rot to the Kocher .

In the east, the somewhat longer “Gschwender” Rot , the Reichenbach and near the mouth in the southeast the short Obere Gellbach all head south to the Kocher tributary Lein.

In the southwest, the watershed runs from the mouth in front of the small catchment areas of the Gellbach and Eisenbach , which are also Lein tributaries, before the upper Lein itself competes in the rest of the west.

Tributaries

The tributaries are listed from the source to the mouth. Length information according to LUBW-FG10, catchment areas according to LUBW-GEZG, heights usually estimated according to the contour line image on the background map of LUBW-FG10.
