The Glattenzainbach is a 6.5 km long brook in north-eastern Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the "Fichtenberger" Rot from the right and south near Fichtenberg in the Schwäbisch Hall district .

geography

course

The Glattenzainbach rises on the northern edge of the Lias plateau of the Welzheimer Forest in the north-western tip of the Gschwender community area, which is already divided by several streams . About a hundred meters northwest of its scattered settlement yard Hengstberg it arises at the beginning of the hillside forest down to the lower Stubensandstein high level ( Löwenstein formation ) around Murrhardt - Kirchenkirnberg . He quickly runs down the wooded step and then turns to the east in the open corridor in front of the L 1150, which has almost reached Kirchenkirnberg at the foot of its winding forest paths from Kaisersbach , first to take up two short streams from the right, along with theirs Inflows arise more or less high up on the same step edge.

Then it turns to the northeast, feeds a small pond shortly before crossing under the state road ("Gschwender Straße") which now continues out of the village to the east to the B 39 , takes an inlet from the village immediately after it and reaches a little further downhill of the Kirchenkirnberg sewage treatment plant, the confluence with a larger tributary that drains the first part of the step edge that continues to the east. From Kirchenkirnberg the valley road enters the valley, a forest road that from now on accompanies the stream to its mouth.

At this confluence, the Glattenzainbach already flows into a forest valley sunk a few dozen meters into the Stubensandstein surface, in which it continues in a northerly direction about 1.5 km to the Murrhardt-Kirchenkirnberger Weiler Täle , where it takes the brook from the Tiefen Klinge from the left and then, here a little way in the open valley floodplain, moves east into the municipality of Fichtenberg . After less than a further kilometer, a last more significant brook flows in from the south from the right, the remaining 2½ km to the mouth of the Glattenzainbach runs north-northeast and so close to the Rauhenzainbach , which is parallel to the east beyond the elongated mountain forest ridge Staufenberg , that from now there are no more tributaries from this side, but definitely from the left from the Schönhart , first one from the Gies- and then one from the Hirschblade .

A little below this, for the first time, a larger forest clearing extends to the left bank, soon afterwards the Glattenzainbachtal opens up to that of the Rot , here the stream finally enters the open corridor. The Glattenzainbach runs between a new development area on the left and an industrial area on the right, which already belong to Fichtenberg, and then flows across from the sports grounds from the right and south into the Rot, which runs eastwards here .

Catchment area

The Glattenzainbach drains almost 7½ km² of predominantly wooded area on the Lias edge of the Welzheimer forest and the upstream sandstone step south of the Rottal valley. It extends from the source to the mouth about 5 km in a north-northeast direction and has a maximum width of about 2½ km perpendicular to it. The catchment area is divided into the municipality of Fichtenberg, the city of Murrhardt and the municipality of Gschwend, in order of decreasing share; the proportions differ only slightly; Fichtenberg has less than a third more area than Gschwend.

In the northwest is the catchment area of the smaller red tributary Dappach , in the northeast that of the receiving "Fichtenberger" Rot , which moves to the Kocher , in the entire east that of the Rauhenzainbach , also a tributary of the Fichtenberger Rot . Beyond the Lias edge in the south, another red flows south to the confluence with the Lein at the Voggenberger Sägmühle . To the west of the watershed, all competitors drain to the upper Murr , on whose much longer section the Gänsbach over the Otterbach and on a smaller, almost again in the northwest, the Seebach , which runs through the Fornsbacher Waldsee, to the Fornsbach .

geology

The Glattenzainbach rises in the marl ( Trossingen formation ), its secondary brook of the second order from Altenberg even a little higher in the locally overlapping Liaskappe around the hamlet. These source brooks soon reach the Stubensandstein ( Löwenstein Formation ), from which they switch to the Upper Bunten Marl ( Mainhardt Formation ) roughly along the route of the L 1150 ; here the runs also begin to deepen more steeply. From here to the hamlet of Täle, silica sandstone ( Hassberge formation ), Untere Bunte marl ( Steigerwald formation ) and reed sandstone ( Stuttgart formation ) are passed through very quickly , there the Glattenzainbach enters the Gipskeuper ( grave field formation ), in which it up remains to the mouth.

In the southern part of the catchment area there is extensive Stubensandstein, which also continues on both sides of the valley in the east on the plateau to the edge of the valley section running eastwards to Täle, and in the west along the watershed even a little further. In Schönhart there is extensive Upper Bunter Marl, the remaining middle Keup layers above the Gipskeuper lie in almost everywhere only narrow strips around the valley cuts of the Glattenzainbach and its larger lower tributaries.

The floodplain clay strip begins a little below the Kirchenkirnberg sewage treatment plant and accompanies the stream to its mouth as a very narrow band until almost the end; These valley fillings are also found in the lower valleys of the larger tributaries below.

The forest valley that flows from the right at the Kirchenkirnberg sewage treatment plant follows a geological fault line that continues beyond the Glattenzainbach and its western watershed far northwest towards Fornsbach . Approximately parallel another 1 - 1.5 km in the southwest runs another fault, in between lies a deep floe, so that Kirchenkirnberg like the Liaskappe around Altenberg, on the edge of which the higher springs are, lie tectonically deeper than the surroundings. This may have contributed to the extensive preservation of the Lias layer, which has already been removed further east.
