geography

Springs and stream

Origin in a meadow basin at the foot of the Hohenberg near Rosenberg
The lower part of the glass pond
Litter meadow between the glass saw mill and the oil mill

The Rotenbach arises a little away from the southeastern foot of the Hohenberg , on the southern outskirts of the village of Rosenberg - Hohenberg in open fields. From its origin to its mouth, it runs steadily in a south-easterly direction.

First he passes the Hohenberger settlement area Dieselhof, from here he has a noticeable valley basin. After that, it first forms the southwestern border of the Finsterholz forest area and takes on its Krauthofbach spring stream, which is about the same length, from the right , and then enters the forest. When it exits again, it crosses under the valley-crossing K 3231 and touches the Sägmühlen settlement Griesweiler in its northwest , with the Klapperschenkelbach flowing into it from the right . Here in the Altmannsroter clearing island it also passes the location of the former Bannmühle and flows into the Glasweiher on its southern edge , an old mill pond that has been expanded into a retention basin about one kilometer in length and seven hectares. In the lake, the Sägbach reaches it from the right , immediately below the dam and the L 1073 valley crossing, then the Wolfsbach from the right . Then it flows in a wide, moist and open floodplain between forest slopes, while the Kaltenbach flows towards it from the right . After the oil mill, the forest also retreats from the hills and it soon enters the Ellwang suburb of Rotenbach , where it takes its longest tributary from the right, the 2.8 km long Entenbach, less than 200 m from its confluence with the Jagst .

Catchment area

The Rotenbach drains around 17 km² of the Virngrund , which here naturally belongs to the lower area of the Ellwanger Mountains of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains , to the southeast to the Jagst. It reaches its greatest heights on the peaks of the Schönberg ( 569.2  m above sea level ) on the western edge and the Hohenberg ( 568.9  m above sea level ) on the northern edge. To the left of the Rotenbach, the watershed is never even a kilometer away; the L 1060 follows its course very precisely, while the right watershed is sometimes almost two kilometers from the brook. The lower left hills are in the Oberkeuper , while the higher step edge of the Black Jura marks the right edge of the catchment area for a long stretch. Correspondingly, the right tributaries are more numerous and powerful.

In the north and north-east the neighboring streams flow over the Orrot to the Jagst , in the east and south to the Jagst, to the south-west beyond the Hinterlengenberg Jura plateau and to the west the Sizenbach competes , in the north-west it is the Blinde Rot, who strives south to the Kocher .

nature and landscape

The Rotenbach runs mainly in a cleared landscape. Only between the Dieselhof and Griesweiler does it flow for about a kilometer in the middle of the forest; A little earlier and especially down the valley from the glass pond to the oil mill, it lines the tree line in sections. In the latter part, he commutes in a floodplain of pronounced swamp meadows, which are followed by sandy slopes with blueberry and heather flora. In the past, its floodplains were partially used as litter meadows , so litter was mowed here at greater intervals than is usual for fodder production. Since this use is no longer available today, the valleys tend to be covered with bushes.

Tributaries

The tributaries of the higher order of the Rotenbach are also listed, each from the source to the mouth, according to TK25 or the geodata viewer of the state of Baden-Württemberg, where possible or useful with name, mouth side, mouth location and length. Set up in each case according to the point of mouth in the downward direction under the immediately receiving stream. The lengths of the tributaries were taken from the geodata viewer or measured on the TK25 and rounded to a full hundred meters. Italicized brook names were found in the form of the name in one of the sources, if no names could be derived from these for brooks, a descriptive name was chosen as an alternative, which is not in italics to distinguish it.

The Rotenbach rises at the southeastern slope of the Hohenberg .
