The Rothbach is a 5 km long stream and a left tributary of the Eckbach . It flows along its entire length in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Bad Dürkheim .

The Rothbach rises in the north-eastern Palatinate Forest at about 315  m above sea level. NHN directly south of Autobahn 6 between junction 17 ( Enkenbach-Alsenborn ) and 18 ( Wattenheim ) near the Entenpfuhl car park . It always runs to the east and initially flows through the 200 m long karst pond . Then he crosses under the state road  520, which runs from Hertlingshausen to Wattenheim. He then passed the Hetschmühle with the equally m to 200 length pent Hetschmühlweiher and strikes the county road  20, which runs almost to the end of its course by the stream. In the area of ​​the waterworks and the hammer mill , which is preceded by a smaller reservoir , it touches the southern settlement area of ​​the municipality of Wattenheim. For the last 500 m it turns to the southeast and again crosses under the L 520 in the area of ​​the confluence of the K 20. After a good 5 km it flows into the Eckbach from the left in Altleiningen below the castle of the same name at 220  m altitude.

Tributaries

The only noteworthy tributary is the 1.1 km long Seckenhäuser Brunnenbach, which flows into the Rothbach from the right just above the dam of the Hammermühle.

history

In earlier times, the Rothbach supplied the water for mills and engines , such as the Hetsch mill and the hammer mill. In the Rothbachtal on the southern edge of Wattenheim, historical names such as Kupfertal or Schmelz point to the former importance of the water in the extraction and processing of metals .
