history

In 1209 the village was first mentioned as "Rothelmeshusen" in a document from St. Petri Stift Fritzlar . In the 13th century the lords of Löwenstein were named as owners. Cantor Herman von Grüne donated a quarter of the village to St. Petri Stift in 1308. Werner von Löwenstein-Schweinsberg confirmed this donation in 1309. From 1324 almost all of the village belonged to St. Petri Stift Fritzlar.

Around 1520 the two villages of Rothhelmshausen and Unthought were pledged to Count Philip II of Waldeck . In 1547 the pledge was redeemed and the place became again the unrestricted property of the Petersstift. When in 1597 Gerhard von Löwenstein-Romrod sold the last remainder of Löwenstein's property in the village to the Petersstift, this became the sole owner of Rothhelmshausen.

With the secularization of the spiritual territories in 1803, the village, together with the city of Fritzlar and the neighboring village of Ungedanken, became part of the nominal principality of Fritzlar and thus of Kurhessen .

On December 31, 1971, the previously independent community of Rothhelmshausen was incorporated into the city of Fritzlar.

church

Protestant village church Rothhelmshausen

In the years 1892–93 the Protestant church was built in neo-Gothic style by the consistorial master builder Gustav Schönermark according to plans by Louis Angermann. The hall building with the unusual 4/6 end of the choir shows on the outside a slipped pointed helmet with a lantern hood, inside an open roof structure with hanging columns and largely the furnishings from the time of construction. The church is used jointly with the neighboring congregation Ungedanken and was named "Resurrection Church" in 1992.
