Geography and traffic

Unganken lies on the northeastern edge of the Hessenwald and on the south bank of the Eder . The Osterbach , which is contained in pipes within the local area, between Pfarrstrasse and Bahnhofstrasse, flows through the village . At the level of the main road, the Osterbach takes on the Ruppenbach coming from Rothhelmshausen . North below the village, after the intersection of federal road 253 , the Osterbach flows into the Eder.

The federal road 253 from Fritzlar to Bad Wildungen runs along the northern edge of the village. Unthinkingly there is a stopping point , located immediately north of the federal highway 253, on the railway line Wabern – Brilon Wald , which runs parallel to the federal highway .

history

The Catholic village church

In 1209 the place name can be traced for the first time as "Ungethangen" in the "Codex Adelhardi" and the list of all ownership rights of the Fritzlarer St. Petri-Stift . On this occasion, the place celebrated the 800th anniversary of its first mention from 3rd to 6th September 2009.

However, the area, especially the Büraberg , which is part of today's local area , was settled long before the 13th century. The oldest traces of settlement are dated to the Paleolithic .

Unthanken belonged to Kurmainz and remained together with Fritzlar and the neighboring village Rothhelmshausen after the Reformation and thus Catholic, while the entire area belonging to the Landgraviate of Hesse and the County of Waldeck became Protestant after the Homberg Synod in 1526.

After the dissolution of the Electorate of Mainz in 1803, Fritzlar, Ungedanken and Rothhelmshausen became part of the newly created titular principality of Fritzlar , which came to the Landgrave and Elector of Hesse-Kassel . In 1866 the place with Hessen-Kassel fell to Prussia . Since the dissolution of Prussia after the Second World War , Unthanken has been part of the state of Hesse.

The previously independent community Unthought was incorporated into the city of Fritzlar on December 31, 1971.

The Jewish cemetery in thought

Jewish community

At the beginning of the 17th century, the first Jews, who were presumably refugees from Poland , settled in thoughtlessly. From here they could do business in the immediately neighboring county of Waldeck , where Jews were not allowed to stay from sunset to sunrise. From 1864 on the existence of its own synagogue , the construction costs of which amounted to 6,000 thalers, and an elementary school with 45 to 50 students are reported. Towards the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, the community shrank considerably due to emigration and relocation, especially to Fritzlar, so that in 1915 only two Jewish families could be found in the village. The school was closed in 1901. The synagogue building was sold in August 1937 to a non-Jewish family who converted it into a residential building; the building, which has since been heavily modified by renovations, has been preserved as a residential building. The cemetery, which is around 28  ares in size, also bears witness to the settlement of Jewish families in Unthought.
