The Route 31 or R 31 is a highway in the Sultanate of Oman . The trunk road is the country's north-south axis. It leads from the provincial capital Nizwa via Adam , Haima and Thumrait to the big city Salala in the south of the country. The road runs almost all the way through the Rub-al-Chali desert. It is currently being expanded into a motorway.
