Rudolf Bernt (born February 21, 1844 in Neunkirchen , † August 24, 1914 in Pottenstein ) was an Austrian architect and painter .

Life

Born in Lower Austria , Bernt studied at the Technical University and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Carl Roesner and Eduard van der Nüll . From 1870 he worked in Otto Wagner's studio . Rudolf Bernt became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus in 1884 . After his death he was given a grave of honor in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 0).

Rudolf Bernt was involved in numerous works by Otto Wagner. He developed into a recognized draftsman and ornamentist. Since the 1890s he has mainly worked as a watercolorist. His motifs were preferably vedute and architectural images. His best-known work as an architect is the Georg-Coch monument on Georg-Coch-Platz in Vienna.

The name "Rudolf Bernt" or "Rud. Bernt ”can also be found as a signature on various historical securities, for example on bonds issued by the communal credit institution of the province of Upper Austria, the Upper Austrian provincial mortgage institution and the lower Austrian provincial mortgage institution.
