Rudolf Siebenmann

Rudolf "Ruedi" Ernst Siebenmann (born July 29, 1922 in Lima , Peru ; † December 5, 2018 in Zurich ) was a Swiss titular professor for general and special pathological anatomy . He was a researcher , lecturer and head of the pathological institutes of the St. Gallen Cantonal Hospital and the Triemli City Hospital .

Career

education

Siebenmann studied medicine in Bern , Paris and Zurich. In 1948 he completed his studies with a state examination. Then he began a pathological training course. He worked at the pathological institutes of the St. Gallen Cantonal Hospital, the University Hospital Zurich and the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston . In 1963 he completed his habilitation at the University of Zurich and received the venia legendi .

In 1963 Siebenmann became chief physician at the pathological institute of the St. Gallen Cantonal Hospital. From 1970 he headed the pathological institute at the Triemli City Hospital in Zurich as chief physician. From 1974 he was also the deputy chief physician director.

Siebenmann was a member of several scientific societies and from 1972 worked at the World Health Organization in Geneva . There he researched the international histological classification of endocrine tumors . He has also given lectures at national and international congresses and specialist conferences .

As a lecturer, Siebenmann conducted pathology courses, led seminars and supervised doctoral students.

Private

Siebenmann lived in Uitikon and died on December 5, 2018 at the age of 96. He was buried in the Uitikon Waldegg cemetery. His son Manuel Siebenmann (* 1959) is a film and television director, author and dramaturge, his daughter Nina Siebenmann (1956–2009) was a musician and lecturer at the Zurich Conservatory.

Publications (selection)

Siebenmann has published numerous scientific papers . His contribution on the pathological morphology of endocrine regulatory disorders in the manual of general pathology was significant .
