Rudolf Theis Eden (born August 22, 1883 in Syuggewarden, Butjadingen ; † February 13, 1925 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German surgeon and university professor.

Life

After graduating from high school in Oldenburg (Oldenburg) , Eden studied medicine at the Philipps University of Marburg , the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich , the Georg August University of Göttingen and the Friedrich Wilhelms University of Berlin . Since 1903 he was a member of the Corps Hasso-Nassovia . After the state examination and the doctorate to Dr. med. he started his medical training in Marburg . In 1909 he moved to Berlin and on December 1, 1910 to the University of Jena , where he completed his habilitation . He served as a private lecturer and senior physician from 1914 to 1916 in the First World War . He was awarded the Iron Cross . In 1918 the University of Jena appointed him associate professor for surgery . With his tendency to bone surgery, he went on October 1, 1919 to Erich Lexer at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . In 1924 he became Lexer's agent. On the way home from the clinic, he suffered a femoral neck fracture in a bicycle fall , which was followed by a fatal pulmonary artery embolism .

By the age of only 41, Eden had made significant contributions to clinical and scientific surgery. The Eden-Hybinette plastic for stabilizing anterior shoulder dislocations is still famous today, even if it has been displaced by soft tissue surgery . Eden had used the procedure for the first time in Jena on April 25, 1917, ten days before his Stockholm colleague S. Hybinette .

“This is how a very hopeful life ends, a wonderful person, an excellent surgeon, researcher and teacher. Losing my clinic is hard. But it also affects all of German surgery, which had one of their best disciples in him. "

- Erich Lexer

In 1914 Eden Daniela born Schott from Jena married. They had two daughters and three sons together. Edo Eden (1922–1998) became a Freiburg Swabian and was promoted to Dr. med. dent. PhD. From 1960 to 1982 he was a medical officer in the Bundeswehr , most recently as a senior physician and chief dentist in the army in Cologne.
