Just Rudolf Seelhorst , von Seelhorst since 1744 (* December 7, 1700 in Kirchboitzen ; † January 6, 1779 in Aschersleben ) was a Prussian major general , chief of the cuirassier regiment "von Vasold" , as well as a knight of the order Pour le Mérite and governor of Jerichow.

Life

His father was the pastor in Kirchboitzen Lewin Seelhorst (1656-1721), his mother Margarethe Sophie Bodecker (1668-1722) from Hanover.

Military career

In 1716, Seelhorst joined the “von der Schulenburg” dragoon regiment as a common soldier and was promoted to quartermaster and sergeant until 1725. In 1726 he was promoted to ensign and in 1731 advanced to lieutenant and adjutant . In 1742 he was given command of the body squadron from Margrave Friedrich von Bayreuth , and he largely left the regiment to him. In 1742 he was made chief of staff and in 1756 chief of a squadron and major. In 1760 he became a lieutenant colonel and regimental commander. On September 1, 1764 he was promoted to colonel , in 1769 he was appointed major general and chief of the cuirassier regiment "von Vasold". In 1766 he was appointed governor of Jerichow .

He was involved in numerous battles. Seelhorst fought in the Battle of Mollwitz in 1740 and in Chotusitz in 1742 , where he was shot in the neck. He was at Hohenfriedberg , Kesselsdorf , Lobositz , Breslau , Leuthen and Torgau . He was also present at both sieges of Prague and the siege of Olomouc.

He was able to stand out personally after the Battle of Hohenfriedeberg in the battle near Neustadt on July 31, 1745. With his unit he was able to drive out an entire corps of cavalry and Croats. For this he received a gift of 500 thalers from the king. In the battle of Torgau his squadron was the first to encounter the infantry.

For his bravery he was elevated to the Prussian nobility on March 16, 1744 by King Friedrich II .

Seelhorst married Beate Charlotte von Böckern (1729–1753) on June 4, 1744, with whom he had the following children:

After the death of his first wife, Seelhorst married Florentine Dorothea von der Dollen (1719–1791) from the Klein-Luckow family on September 4, 1754 . She outlived her husband and received a royal pension. The couple had several children:
