The Ruta 28 ( RN 28 for short ) is a national road in the Región de Antofagasta in the great north of Chile . It is completely asphalted for 15.7 km. It connects the Ruta 5 Arica-La Serena with Antofagasta and the coastal road Ruta 1 .
It indirectly connects the city with the rest of the country. Because of this, it is a very busy street, especially for the workers of the companies in the industrial city of La Negra . It is also used by intercity buses and travelers.
Before entering the urban area of the municipality, the street is called Avenida de la Minería , over which it finally converges with the Avenida Universidad de Chile . On its section as Avenida, it has two branches to Barrio Jardines del Sur and Barrio Coviefi .
A two-lane expansion is currently taking place along the entire route. A new bridge is also being built and a new connection to Ruta 5 , from where the road to the north is under the administration of Autopistas de Antofagasta .
