Ruth Rogers-Altmann (* December 31, 1917 in Vienna as Ruth Karplus; † October 11, 2015 ) was a painter and fashion designer and lived in New York City and Long Island .

Life

Ruth Karplus grew up in Vienna as the daughter of Else and Arnold Karplus , a recognized architect who, among other things , planned the Ditteshof community building . She and her parents initially lived in the 8th district , where building officer and expert Karplus also had his studio, and from 1933–1938 we lived in the Steiner house in Vienna's 13th district, designed by Adolf Loos for Lilly and Hugo Steiner in 1910 and inhabited by them until 1927 (Hietzing) , Unter-St.-Veit district , St.-Veit-Gasse 10.

From childhood, Ruth had contact with architects and artists who went in and out of her parents' apartment. She was first a student at the private grammar school run by Eugenie Schwarzwald , after moving to Hietzing with her parents, she attended the Wenzgasse grammar school in her new residential district , then the Vienna Women's Academy and applied to the arts and crafts school, where she studied with Albert Paris Gütersloh could study.

In her youth in Austria, she learned to ski in the Mathias Zdarsky ski school. In the beginning, the method of mastering the curves with a single long stick was used there. Later she went skiing for decades in Alta (Utah) and also painted there.

After Austria's "annexation" to Hitler's Germany in March 1938, she did not return to Vienna from a stay in Prague , but traveled to New York. Her brother Gerhard also fled in 1938; the parents followed in 1939. With the exception of her brother Hans, who emigrated to South America, the whole family sooner or later ended up in New York.

In September 1938 Ruth Karplus married Martin Rogers in the United States, and in 1964 Hans Altmann, the third son of the Viennese textile industrialist Bernhard Altmann, who was driven to emigrate in 1938. Hans had completed his Matura at the Fichtnergasse grammar school not far from Ruth Karplus' house at the time and lived with his family nearby, 13th, Kopfgasse 1.

Works

Rogers-Altmann's works show a connection to symbolism and abstract painting. The technology she developed, coloramic vibrant hues and circle symbol, exudes its own fascination.

In the Stanford University and the Alf Engen Ski Museum at Utah Olympic Park works of Rogers Altmann can be seen.
