Ruthven Wade

Sir Ruthven Lowry Gerry Wade KCB DFC (born July 15, 1920 in Chipperfield , Hertfordshire ; † September 24, 2001 ) was a British Air Force officer in the Royal Air Force , who was last in the rank of General ( Air Chief Marshal ) from 1976 to 1978 Personnel and Logistics Department in the Defense Staff of the Armed Forces .

Life

Aviation training and World War II

After attending Cheltenham College, Wade began his aviation training in 1938 as a flight cadet in the A-Squadron of the Royal Air Force College Cranwell , the officers' school of the RAF. After completing his training, shortly after the beginning of the Second World War, on December 23, 1939, he was accepted as a professional soldier ( Permanent Commission ) in the RAF and promoted to lieutenant ( pilot officer ). On April 29, 1944, Wade took over his first command post as Commanding Officer of No. 44 Squadron RAF , which he held until the end of the Second World War .

On July 7, 1944, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC).

Staff officer in the post-war period

After the end of the war, Wade was promoted to air force staff in the subdivision for organization in 1945 and promoted to captain ( Flight Lieutenant ) on May 21, 1946 , with this promotion being dated back to June 23, 1943. On August 1, 1947, he was promoted to Major ( Squadron Leader ). Wade then became Deputy Commander in Chief of the Air Force in the Federal Republic of Germany ( RAF Germany ) on March 6, 1971 , before becoming Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Operations) on January 13, 1973. ) has been.
