Rutilio del Riego Jáñez (born September 21, 1940 in Valdesandinas , Spain ) is a Spanish-American clergyman and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop emeritus in San Bernardino .

Life

Rutilio del Riego Jáñez studied theology at the Pontifical University of Salamanca in Salamanca and the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC He received the sacrament of priestly ordination on June 5, 1965 by William Joseph McDonald , Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of San Francisco , in the National Shrine of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington.

Del Riego Jáñez served as a priest in various institutions in Latrobe, Pennsylvania , Washington, DC, San Antonio, Texas , New York City, and the Diocese of El Paso . From 1999 he worked as a vicar and pastor in Riverside in the diocese of San Bernardino . Here he also headed the Riverside Vicariate.

On July 26, 2005, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . as titular bishop of Daimlaig and auxiliary bishop in San Bernardino. The Bishop of San Bernardino, Gerald Richard Barnes , donated him episcopal ordination on September 20 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Las Cruces , Ricardo Ramirez CSB , and the Vice-President Emeritus of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America , Curia Bishop Cipriano Calderón Polo .

At the Bishops' Conference of the United States , Barnes currently chairs the Subcommittee on Pastoral Care of Migrants, Refugees and Travelers and is a member of the Committee on Cultural Diversity in the Church .

Rutilio del Riego is Grand Officer of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on December 11, 2015.
