history

Deutsch Reichenau was first mentioned in writing on June 29, 1261, when Agnes, widow of the Pilgrim of Wittingau ( Pelhřim z Třeboňě ) donated the church of Deutsch Reichenau, consecrated in 1259 by the Prague bishop Johann , to the Hohenfurt monastery. The donation was confirmed in the same year with a certificate from Smil von Gratzen ( Smil z Nových Hradů ), a son of Hojer von Lomnica ( Ojíř z Lomnice ), issued in Rosenberg . The latter document was attested by the brothers Heinrich and Wok of Krumau ( Heinricus et dominus Wocho fratres dicti de Chrumbenaw ). From the deed of donation it can be concluded that Deutsch Reichenau was in the possession of the Witigon family branch of the Lords of Landstein and was probably founded by Witiko IV (also Witiko von Klokoty ; Czech Vítek IV. Z Klokot † 1234) or his son Pilgrim von Wittingau. The church of St. Aegidius was destroyed in the Hussite Wars and then rebuilt in the Gothic style.

According to the Munich Agreement , German Reichenau was part of the Kaplitz district in the Reichsgau Upper Danube from 1938 to 1945 . In 1939 it consisted of 720 inhabitants. After the Second World War , the German population was expelled in 1945/46 . As a result, numerous buildings were left to decay and devastated . Further economic development was hampered by the population decline. In 1991 the place had 154 inhabitants. In 2001 the village consisted of 54 houses in which 194 people lived.
