history

Remains of the church tower in the Vockenrode desert near Sägemühle

At the inn of the same name, remains are reminiscent of the church tower of the village of Vockerode , which was once located here and is said to have consisted of 23 houses. The oldest news about this comes from the year 1253. As early as 1574, the cutting mill or sawmill located near the village of Vockerode on the Tyra was owned by the Becker family, who demolished the old building and replaced it with a new house, the current “Zur Sawmill". An inscription above the entrance indicates the old age of the half-timbered building. The linden tree in the yard is also likely to be over four hundred years old. The Becker family stayed in the "sawmill" until the end of the 19th century. It was followed by a Heinecke family, Hermann Kutscher in 1911 and Rudolf Schade in 1932. Today the complex is set up for tourists and guests.

Schützensmühle (2015)

The "Schützensmühle", a grinding and oil mill and originally perhaps also a cutting mill, is located southeast near the Krebsbach . Since 1735 it was owned by the Schütze family. When the Nordhäuser Dam was built (until 1906), the mill had to be stopped. Today ponds and mill moats have been filled in.
