Harzungen is a district of the Harztor rural community in the Thuringian district of Nordhausen .
location
Harzungen is located southwest of Neustadt / Harz below the southwestern roof of the Harz. The state roads 1035 and 2075 open up the resort for traffic. To the south is Rüdigsdorf Switzerland , a karst landscape named after the small Nordhausen district of Rüdigsdorf .
To the north of the village is a small pond, the Hegeteich . In addition, the Kappelbach affects the district.
history
Harzungen was first mentioned in a document in 1259. The Harzungen satellite camp existed from 1944 to 1945 in the vicinity of Harzungen and Niedersachswerfen .
On July 6, 2018, Harzungen was incorporated into the Harztor community.
Former councilor
The former local council in Harzungen consisted of six council members who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on June 7, 2009 .
Attractions
- St. Andrew's Church
- A memorial stone erected in 1956 and renewed in 1977 in the cemetery commemorates the 27 perished prisoners of war and slave labor of the Harzungen subcamp by Dora-Mittelbau , which was built in 1944 and in which around 5,000 inmates had to work for the Junkers Group's armaments projects.
