Osterode is a district of Harztor in the Nordhausen district in Thuringia .

location

Osterode is located one kilometer west of Neustadt / Harz. The villages Harzungen and Ilfeld , the western neighbor. The field corridor lies at the foot of the southern slope of the Harz with 235 hectares of agricultural land, which in this karst landscape is mostly far from the groundwater.

history

The small clustered village was first mentioned in a document in 1216 . In 1210 there was a manor in the village . A pastor had worked in the village since the 13th century . A fortified church was built at the beginning of the 13th century, and today's church was added to its tower in 1759 . At that time, six farmers cultivated the fields in the district in addition to the estate . The other able-bodied people worked in the forest as forest workers or in pits as miners. There was a charcoal burning plant until the 21st century . On July 1, 1950, the village was incorporated into Neustadt / Harz. 250 people currently live in the village. Tourism is a mainstay for the region.
