The Sängerhöhe , also Unglückstein , ( 497 m ) is an eastern foothill of the Weberberg ( 711 m nm ) in the Zittau Mountains . Its wooded rock summit lies in the Waltersdorf district in the municipality of Großschönau .
location
The Sängerhöhe is located west of Waltersdorf between the valleys of the Pfarrbach and Kohlflössels , both of which originate in the headwaters of the Weberborn to the southwest. To the northeast is the Kirschhübel ( 442 m ), in the southwest of the Ottoberg ( 520 m ). To the east the mountain falls to the valley of the Waltersdorfer Dorfbach . The Butterberg ( 510 m ) and the Sonneberg ( 627 m ) rise to the southeast, the Lausche ( 793 m ) to the south and the Dreiecker ( 673 m ) to the southwest .
The mountain is surrounded in the north by Herrenwalde , in the north-east and east by Altwaltersdorf, in the south-east by Neuwaltersdorf, in the south by Neue Sorge and in the north-west by Pilzdörfel .

The Sängerhöhe is the middle and second highest peak of a ridge, which extends from Ottoberg in a north-easterly direction to the Kirschhügel, largely consisting of meadowland. The summit of the Sängerhöhe, as well as the Pfarrbachtal, which adjoins it to the northeast, are forested.
The summit is formed by approx. 20 m high, partly lying columns made of nepheline basalt with hornblende, which are part of a 100 m long and 30 m wide corridor in the tuff. In the 19th century, the summit rocks were used as a quarry.
To the southeast of the summit, at the edge of the forest, there is a vantage point with a view of the Waltersdorfer Tal and the Zittau Mountains. From Waltersdorf the ascent takes place on an unmarked path from the Arschkerbe, from the opposite side for a branch from the valley path over the Pfarrbach to the Sängerhöhe.
Surname
The name Unglückstein , used up to the end of the 19th century, is based on a legend according to which a maid who tried to bring a fled goat back from the rocks fell there. After singing performances had taken place on the hilltop since the middle of the 19th century, the name “ Sängerhöhe” became established .
Carl Gustav Carus
In 1820 the painter Carl Gustav Carus also visited the Unglückstein. The picture Geognostic Landscapes with the subtitle Katzenköpfe bei Zittau , created after his trip, probably depicts the rocky cliffs on the Steinberg near Bertsdorf . The phonolite dome, which was not forested until 1847, was called Katzenkopf at the time .
