The SNCF BB 25500 is a French electric locomotive series for use on the direct current network and the alternating current network of the SNCF . The locomotives were built by Alstom from May 19, 1964 to January 14, 1976.

description

These locomotives are part of a large series, the "BB Alsthom". A total of 194 BB 25500 locomotives were delivered, but there are also many sister locomotives: 146 BB 8500 , 294 BB 16500 , 105 BB 17000 and 13 BB 20200 .

The BB 25500 is capable of two systems and can be used in a variety of ways. The maximum speed is 140 km / h for long-distance trains. But the mediocre suspension, which is where the nickname “Danseuses” (dancers) comes from, limits the locomotive to regional and freight traffic today. All BB 25500 used in passenger transport ( TER ) are capable of push-pull trains.

The BB 25500 was built in two versions: the locomotives BB 25500 to 25588 in the original version and the locomotives BB 25588 to 25694 with a larger driver's cab.

business

The commissioning of the BB 25500 has made it possible for trains to be continuously hauled by the same locomotive within France, as it can cope with France's two traction current systems , 1.5 kV direct current and 25 kV 50 Hz alternating current . Since January 1, 1999, the BB 25500 have been divided into three different business areas: Fret (freight transport), TER and Transilien.

Locomotives of this series have been decommissioned since 2004, including those that were used by SNCF Fret. These will be replaced by locomotives of the BB 27000 series . The area of application of the BB 25500 is as follows:

Since the timetable change in 2006, these locomotives have been running with rames inox omnibus (RIO) between France and Switzerland on the Geneva- La Plaine-Bellegarde section. In December 2008 this traffic was increased by two more RIOs, for this purpose an additional BB 25500 was necessary.

In addition, a locomotive of this series was hired by SBB Cargo to transport freight trains between Geneva and La Praille / Vernier-Meyrin.

The BB 25500 have been used for the TER Nord-Pas-de-Calais since the 2009/2010 winter timetable . There they replaced the BB 16500 . The latter were then only in use at TER Picardie .

In 2015, around 60 locomotives were still in use. 25609 is reserved for the museum.

In January 2019 only 8 locomotives were left in the SNCF's inventory, the last stationing of the locomotives will be in Strasbourg before the final decommissioning. Operations are still in local traffic on the Strasbourg - Saverne (- Sarrebourg) and Strasbourg - Sélestat lines .

Use in Romania

Locomotives were sold to the Romanian EVU Regiotrans , these are the BB 25507, 25517, 25518, 25523, 25524, 25528, 25536, 25544, 25558, 25570, 25572, 25576 and 25581. These are there with rames inox omnibus among others on the following routes:

Modelling

This locomotive was manufactured in 1:87 by the Lima company under the numbers BB 25503 green, BB 25554 green, BB 25525 béton (gray), BB 25545 béton. Jouef manufactured the locomotive BB 25531 green and Piko under the number BB 25559 green. Piko has also reproduced the BB 25500 with long and short driver's cabs on a scale of 1: 160 .
