The SNP Dome (spelling: SNP dome ) is a multi-purpose hall under construction in the Kirchheim district of the Baden-Württemberg city ​​of Heidelberg . In addition to school and club sports (around 260 days a year), it is also intended to serve as a venue for the MLP Academics Heidelberg ( basketball ). The Rhein-Neckar Löwen ( handball ) want to use the hall as a second venue next to the SAP Arena for smaller home games in the DHB Cup and the group stage of the EHF Champions League . Furthermore, cultural events and conferences are planned.

history

Bau- und Servicegesellschaft mbH (BSG), a subsidiary of the municipal company for land and house ownership in Heidelberg (GGH), has been working on the preparation and planning of the new building since the end of 2013. In 2016, the municipal council commissioned the BSG with the construction and operation of the hall. On 29 June 2017, the construction of which was Großsporthalle Heidelberg by the local council with a financial volume of 28 million euro decided. The design for the new building comes from Turkali Architects. The BAM Sports GmbH in Dusseldorf was founded in May 2018 as a general contractor engaged for the construction of sports and entertainment arena.

On September 21, 2018, the first groundbreaking for the project was carried out on the former barracks area Patton Barracks on Speyerer Straße . The Heidelberg Innovation Park (hip) has been under construction on the 15 hectare area since 2017. The topping-out ceremony was held on the construction site in June 2019 . With sliding telescopic grandstands, different playing fields with variable dimensions can be created. 5000 places (2884 seats and 2116 standing places) are available for basketball games. Handball games should be followed by 4134 spectators (2658 seats and 1476 standing places). There will be space for 250 visitors in the business club in the hospitality area. There are also six boxes and 140 business seats.

At the end of January 2020, it was announced that the software company SNP Schneider-Neureither & Partner would be name sponsor . In the future the hall will be called SNP dome . The agreement has a term of ten years.
