The inhabitants are called Marancennais .

Saint-Germain-de-Marencennes is located about 29 kilometers east-southeast of La Rochelle in the historic Aunis region . Saint-Germain-de-Marencennes is surrounded by the villages of Péré in the north and north-west, Surgères in the north and north-east, La Devise in the east, Genouillé in the south and south-east, Muron in the south-west and Landrais in the west.

On March 1, 2018, Saint-Germain-de-Marcennes was united with the neighboring municipality of Péré to form the Commune nouvelle Saint-Pierre-la-Noue .
