Salvador Sánchez Santiago (born January 26, 1959 in Santiago Tianguistenco , Mexico , † August 12, 1982 ) was a Mexican featherweight boxer.

Sánchez turned pro in 1975. He initially boxed bantamweight, where he suffered his only defeat in 1977 in the battle for the Mexican championship.

In 1978 he was on the ground in a draw, the only downfall of his career. But overall, Sánchez was considered to be a pretty good taker (many successes in title fights against puncher). More of a technician than a puncher, he was a standard boom, had a very professional view of his profession and was extremely fit.

In 1980 he won the WBC featherweight title against famous puncher Danny "little red" Lopez . In a defense against Juan La Porte, he had far fewer problems than his compatriot Julio César Chavez .

His most famous fight was the knockout against the undefeated Puerto Rican arch-rival Wilfredo Gómez .

He fought his last fight against the then completely unknown Azumah Nelson , whom he knocked out after huge problems.

He died in a traffic accident when he was only 23 years old.

In 1991, Sánchez was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame .
