history
The name Salzekh was first mentioned in 1598 in a sales law letter between the barons of Kainach and the farmers of Hirschegg-Piber . Similar to the Alten Almhaus to the east, there was an important trade crossing, which was primarily used for the eponymous salt transports. A footpath led to the alpine pasture as early as the High Middle Ages when the mountains were being developed from Hirschegg.
In 1886 the timber merchant Johann Tarmann von Krain moved to the Hirschegger area and acquired the "Reinmoar" property. This also included grounds at the salt pan, where Tarmann built his first self-catering hut after a torture . His daughter Juliane Köck, who initially worked as a dairymaid , inherited the alpine hut in 1920 and began to expand it into an alpine inn. The shelter in its current form was built in 1948 and is still family-owned. Over the decades, the salt pan house was expanded and now has several outbuildings.
