Samuel "Sam" Klassen (born January 1, 1989 in Watrous , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian - German ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Straubing Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) .

Career

At the beginning of his career in 2006 Klassen first played with the Humboldt Broncos in the SJHL , the junior league of his home province. During the 2006/07 season, the defender moved to the Saskatoon Blades in the WHL . After three more seasons in Saskatoon, the Canadian was committed by the NHL club New York Rangers in the summer of 2009 , but they gave him up to their AHL farm team Hartford Wolf Pack . From there, in the run-up to the 2010/11 season, Klassen was first transferred to the Greenville Road Warriors in the ECHL and later to league rivals Connecticut Whale . In the 2013/14 season there was initially a loan back to Hartford and later to the Portland Pirates .

In the summer of 2014 he was signed for a year by the DEL team Hamburg Freezers . Since classes also have German citizenship in addition to Canadian, he does not fall under the quota of foreigners in the German league. Following the 2015/16 season , he turned down a new contract in Hamburg, took a break from ice hockey and worked on his father's farm in his Canadian homeland. On March 31, 2017, the clubless class was signed by the Straubing Tigers for one year.
