San Fernando ( Filipino : Lungsod ng San Fernando ; officially: City of San Fernando) is the capital of the Pampanga Province on the island of Luzon in the Republic of the Philippines . It is the administrative seat of the Philippine Region 3 - Central Luzon. San Fernando has 306,659 residents (August 1, 2015 census) who lived in 35 barangays . geography

San Fernando is located in the extensive central Luzon lowlands about 55 kilometers (as the crow flies) northwest of the center of Manila, southwest of the extinct Arayat volcano .

traffic

San Fernando is directly connected to Manila via the North Luzon Expressway (up to four lanes) . Its convenient location is also due to its proximity to Diosdado Macapagal International Airport , the former Clark Air Base , around 16 km north, and the Subic Bay free port (Subic Bay Freeport Zone near Olongapo City , around 50 km west of San Fernando), both former bases of the US armed forces.

history

San Fernando was founded on August 16, 1754 by Don Josef Bersosa and with the help of the monks of the Augustinian order . On February 4, 2001, it was awarded the status of a Component City (large city). The lawyer Oscar S. Rodriguez has been the Lord Mayor since 2004.
