Sand in mein Hand is a song by the German rock band Down Below . The piece is the third single from her second studio album Sinfony²³ .
Creation and artwork
The song was written by Matthias Lindblom, Neo Scope, Steve van Velvet and Andreas Wollbeck. The song was produced and arranged by Henning Verlage . The single was engineered, mastered and mixed by Vincent Sorg , with Toni Loitsch as co-developer. The single was released under the music labels Universal Music Group and Vertigo Records . On the cover of the maxi single - next to the inscription of the artist and the song title - the face of Neo Scope can be seen next to an hourglass . The artwork and the photography of the cover are from Frank Fiedler . The recordings took place in the Principal Studios recording studio in Senden .
Publication and promotion
The song was first published in 2007 as a promo single in Germany. The regular maxi single was released on February 15, 2008 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . The single is available as a digital and physical sound carrier. In addition to the single version, the regular maxi single also contains a remix version of Sand in mein Hand , as well as a remix version and the music video for the previous single Private Soul Security , as a B-side . Only the single version of Sand in my hand is on the promotional support . An official music video was not made.
Bundesvision Song Contest 2008
In order to promote the song and themselves, Down Below took part in the Bundesvision Song Contest 2008 for Saxony-Anhalt . They finished third behind Subway to Sally ( Auf Kiel ) and Clueso (Not a centimeter) with 96 points. From their home country Saxony-Anhalt the band got the full number of points with twelve points, with the exception of the federal state of Bremen they received at least four points from all federal states. For promotional purposes, every artist shoots an election commercial for participation in the BuViSoco. In this, Down Below stand on a theater stage and sarcastically introduce well-known personalities from Saxony-Anhalt , such as: B. Martin Luther , Catherine the Great , Prince Leopold III. Friedrich Franz and Stefan Kretzschmar .

background information
At first, sand in my hand was not to be found on the studio album Sinfony²³ . It was only after participating in the Bundesvision Song Contest that the band released a limited edition of the album, on which sand in my hand is included as a bonus track . After two English-language studio albums, Sand in mein Hand is Down Below's first German-language composition.

The lyrics to sand in my hand are written entirely in German. The music and the text were written jointly by Matthias Lindblom, Neo Scope, Steve van Velvet and Andreas Wollbeck. The band stated that they wrote the song specifically for participation in the Bundesvision Song Contest. Musically, the song moves in the realm of dark rock music . In an interview, Scope explained that the idea for Sand in My Hand was based on portraying Donatien Alphonse François de Sade as the bad other me of himself, which would result in an interesting story arc. In terms of the text, they were sure that if you were to include a German-language text, it would have to fit the topic and be entirely in German.

Sand in mein Hand reached position 42 in the single charts in Germany and stayed in the charts for a total of three weeks. For Down Below, this is the only chart placement in the single charts to this day. It is also the best chart position that was achieved in both the singles and album charts of Down Below, and no other sound carrier of the band was able to stay in the charts for more than three weeks.
