history

The Catholic St. Elisabeth Hospital goes back to a nursing ward opened in 1894 for the poor Franciscan Sisters from Olpe in the former parsonage opposite the Apostle Church . Until then there was only the Evangelical Hospital in Gütersloh .

At times part of the Sankt-Elisabeth-Hospital: the Josefshaus opposite the weaving mill

In 1900 the building was expanded to include additional hospital rooms, a doctor's room, an operating theater and two tea kitchens, and in 1904 an insulating barracks were added. At that time, the denominational hospital had 26 beds that were available to the local doctors for their patients. Over time, the neighboring so-called Josefshaus and the Annaheim were integrated into the hospital.

Towards the end of the Second World War , the hospital was badly damaged. In 1946 the river Dalke , which ran next to the building, overflowed its banks, causing the hospital to suffer severe flood damage. As early as the late 1960s, the parish decided to completely rebuild the hospital in the Spexard district because of the exhausted expansion options in the Gütersloh city center . This new building on the border with Kattenstroth was ready for occupancy in 1985 after a four-year construction period and had 326 beds.

In 1981 the Sankt Elisabeth Hospital took over the St. Lucia Hospital in Harsewinkel , a clinic for geriatrics . The hospital has been run as a GmbH since 2008 . In 2015, the merger with the Marienhospital Oelde followed.

Since 2010, the Sankt-Elisabeth-Hospital has been operating an emergency doctor's vehicle from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays , which drives out around three times a day.

At the end of October 2012 the new medical center, the so-called Elisabeth-Carrée, opened for 14 million euros on an area of almost 11,000 m².
