Sarke is a Norwegian metal band from Oslo that was formed in 2008. Founder Thomas “Sarke” Berglie is also still active at Khold and Tulus , among others .

history

The idea of finally writing his own album had been preoccupying Thomas “Sarke” Bergli since 2003. In 2008 he finally started the writing process and finished it in September of the same year. In November he went to the studio of H10 Productions with producer Lars-Erik Westby . Anders Hunstad ( El Caco ), whom he already knew from his collaboration with Tulus and Sensa Anima, joined in for the keyboard recordings . For the vocals Bergli asked Ted “Nocturno Culto” Skjellum from Darkthrone , who initially declined the offer, but then agreed after hearing a few songs. The vocals were then recorded in the studio within five hours. Bergli himself played the drums, the electric guitars and the bass. The album Vorunah was released in April 2009 by Indie Recordings .

For a performance at the Inferno Metal Festival Norway in Oslo in April 2009, Asgeir Mickelson ( Spiral Architect , ex- Borknagar ) came as drummer and Terje “Cyrus” Andersen as guitarist. In 2009 further appearances followed in Trondheim in April together with Keep of Kalessin , in July at the Wacken Open Air and in August at the Hole in the Sky. At the appearance at the Wacken Open Air, Thomas Gabriel Fischer was also represented as a guest musician, with whom they played the song Dethroned Emperor by Celtic Frost . In 2010, the writing of new songs began, with the songs Condemned and Captured being heard live. Steinar Gundersen ( Satyricon , Spiral Architect) joined the band as guitarist for the Roadburn Festival in April , as Andersen had already played bass with Dimmu Borgir in Australia . However, the tour had to be canceled, leaving Andersen unemployed. At the festival, in return for the Wacken appearance, Skjellum could be heard as a guest musician in Fischer's band Triptykon on the song Dethroned Emperor . Steinar Gundersen then joined the band as the second guitarist, and the band with the new line-up made its first appearance at the German Ragnarök Festival . Other festival appearances followed, such as the German Party.San and the Czech Brutal Assault . In October 2010, the band went back to the H10 Productions studio with Lars-Erik Westby to record the next album. This time the songs were written by Bergli, Skjellum, Andersen and Mickelson. The album was released in Europe in April 2011 under the name Oldarhian . In August 2013, the song Walls of Ru was made available via stream . The band now consisted of the bassist Bergli, the drummer Mickelson, the guitarist Gundersen, the singer Skjellum and the keyboardist Hunstad. In September the complete album was released under the name Aruagint via stream and as a sound carrier on Indie Recordings. The album was re-recorded with Lars-Erik Westby in the studio of H10 Productions.

style

According to Metal Hammer , the song Primitive Killing by Vorunah is reminiscent of Celtic Frost, while the song The Drunken Priest sounds like Darkthrone. The song Frost Junkie is epic and hypnotic, while old rock influences. Cult Ritual sounds like a cross between Black Sabbath and Bathory , reduced to 13 candles heavy guitar sounds and a piano . On the album, according to Robert Müller from Metal Hammer , the band sounds like a Doom Metal version of Darkthrone, although the vocals sound too monotonous in the long run. The organ in Old would be reminiscent of Candlemass . According to Detlef Dengler from Metal Hammer , the band on Oldarhian moves between Black Sabbath and Celtic Frost, although the singing is still too monotonous. According to El Greco from stormbringer.at , the band played a mixture of black and thrash metal on Aruagint , with rock songs like Ugly reminiscent of Motörhead . The song Jodau Aura also contains elements from Doom Metal, while the vocals are heavily influenced by Black Metal. The song Icon Usurper also contains Doom Metal elements.
