geography

course

The source of the Saubrunnenbach rises in the middle of a field on the southwest side of Röhlinger Straße opposite the industrial area Neunheim at about 496  m above sea level. NHN . Its green overgrown ditch stretches from there a good 150 meters to the south-east and then turns right onto a constant south-west course. In the now digging grassland hollow it passes at almost 480  m above sea level. NHN at the inlet of a small valley basin from the right a 0.2 ha pond on its right side. Thereafter, the municipal boundary of indented Rainau close to the left, and the drain of the two small Gentnerweiher , together with 0.1 ha, in another from the right tapered small valley in Won Saubrunnen to about 490- 485  m above sea level. NHN , feeds the Saubrunnenbach.

After almost 1.5 km of running, he enters a large forest area, to which the Goldrain on the right and the Wagenhart on the left belong. There will soon be another 0.1 hectare pond on the left side of the run at 460.1  m above sea level. NHN . After a good half of the run, an elongated meadow called Mittelbach opens up in the forest , now entirely on the Rainau municipality mark, which the brook partly turns and mostly runs through at the edges. After crossing under the dam of the K 3319 Dalkingen -Ellwangen, the forest ends on the lower right slope, while trees continue to stand up the higher left spur Burgholz . Half a kilometer further down the Saubrunnenbach passes under the B 290 on the edge of the open Jagst-Aue. After crossing it in a very flat course, it flows about 300 meters further from the right and northeast to about 435  m above sea level. NHN between the Rainau villages of Schwabsberg and Saverwang am Gewann Am Saubrunnenbach in the here briefly very meandering upper Jagst .

The Saubrunnenbach is 3.8 km long, flows about 61 meters below its source and has a mean bed gradient of about 16 ‰. Apart from the brief ones mentioned above, it has no significant tributaries.

Catchment area

The Saubrunnenbach drains an area of 3.2 square kilometers size, with its north-eastern part of the Pfahlheim-Rattstädter Liasplatten is, a sub natural area of the foothills of the eastern Swabian Alb , while the estuary near the southwest the subspace Ellwanger mountains of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains is attributed . The natural area boundary follows the stratum boundary between the leveling Black Jura on the height and the Upper , most recently probably also the Middle Keuper , which are cut in the valley and in the Jagstaue, in which a broad Quaternary flood plain is deposited.

Competitors in the north-west beyond the Goldrain are the next right downstream Jagst tributary Goldrainbach , on the watershed to which on a low plateau at the water tower at Wagnershof at 519.7  m above sea level. NHN is the highest point; in the northeast and east of the Hirschbach , which drains further up over the Röhlinger Sechta into this; as well as the last right-hand Jagst tributary Auerbach in the southeast and south beyond the Wagenhart .

The plateau is completely free of forests and is mostly plowed. The slopes of the valley are forested, the hunting rope is open again, there are more meadows here than above. The run is completely free of settlement. On the northern edge, the built-up areas of Neunheim and the adjoining industrial area Neunheim extend into the catchment area, which, like the whole of the north, lead into the city limits of Ellwangen , while the south of which belongs to the municipality of Rainau , both in the Ostalb district .
