Saxon Winston Holt

Saxon Winston Holt (born March 25, 1871 in Surry County , Virginia , †  March 31, 1940 in Virginia) was an American politician . Between 1938 and 1940 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Virginia.

Career

There are almost no usable sources about Saxon Holt. He lived at least part of the time in Newport News and was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1904 and 1938 he was a member of the Virginia Senate , of which he was incumbent President ( President Pro Tempore ) between 1920 and 1938.

In 1937, Holt was elected lieutenant governor of Virginia alongside James H. Price . He held this office between 1938 and his death on March 31, 1940. He was Deputy Governor and formal chairman of the State Senate. After his death, the post of lieutenant governor remained vacant until the next regular election.
