Junius Edgar West (born July 12, 1866 in Sussex County , Virginia , †  January 1, 1947 in Richmond , Virginia) was an American politician . Between 1922 and 1930 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Virginia.

Career

Junius West attended both public and private schools. He then studied at the University of North Carolina . After completing a law degree at Washington and Lee University , he was admitted to the bar. In addition to his work as a lawyer, he has also worked in other industries. He was a school councilor and newspaper publisher. He also worked in the insurance industry.

Politically, West joined the Democratic Party . Initially he held a few local offices in Suffolk . In 1896 and 1936 he took part as a delegate at the respective Democratic National Conventions . In 1901 he was elected to the Virginia House of Representatives; between 1912 and 1921 he was a member of the State Senate . In 1921 he was elected lieutenant governor of Virginia alongside Elbert Lee Trinkle . He held this office after being re-elected between 1922 and 1930. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. From 1926 he served under the new governor Harry F. Byrd .

Junius West was a member of several organizations and associations. This also included the Freemasons . He died in Richmond on January 1, 1947.
