Racetrack

Route map

Before the Second World War , Saxtorp was the start and finish of a motorsport racing circuit that was known by the same name as the town.

The track was about 14.5 kilometers long, consisted of public roads that were closed for the racing events and was considered less dangerous than most other street courses of the time. The route was driven clockwise . It ran in a south-easterly direction from Saxtorp to Dösjebro , then ran south-west to Lyckan, then west to Björnstorp and finally back north again to Saxtorp.

From 1930 to 1939 the racetrack hosted the Swedish Grand Prix for motorcycles , which was run for the European motorcycle championship in 1933 and 1939 . The races attracted the works teams of the internationally leading English , Italian and German manufacturers who brought the best pilots of the time to the start. For example, Walfried Winkler , Ewald Kluge and Heiner Fleischmann for DKW , Otto Ley for BMW , Ted Mellors for Velocette or Dorino Serafini for Gilera entered the list of winners for the races in Saxtorp. The Swedish manufacturer Husqvarna was also successful four times with Ragnar Sunnqvist , Gunnar Kalén and Stanley Woods . The record winner on the Saxtorp racetrack was Briton Jimmie Simpson on Norton with three wins .

In 1933, drivers Harry Bjelkerud and Eric Lundberg were killed in accidents at the Swedish Grand Prix.

Today, the Landskrona Motorklubb's motocross race track is located in the south of Saxtorp .
