Scampolo is a romantic comedy film with Romy Schneider from 1958. It is a remake of Scampolo, a child of the street (1932). In Italian, scampolo means “scraps of fabric” or “leftover piece”.
action
The seventeen-year-old orphan girl Scampolo works as a tour guide on the Italian island of Ischia . She also does laundry for Marietta. There she meets the penniless young architect Costa. Although Marietta warns her about the men, a love begins to sprout between him and Scampolo.
Costa can only stay afloat thanks to the support of his wealthy friend, the photographer Andreas Michaelis. He hopes to win a prize in an upcoming architecture competition. Scampolo, who initially doesn't know anything about Andreas, lends Costa some money so that he can pay for the laundry. They approach each other cautiously, and Costa introduces the inexperienced Scampolo into the upper classes through Andreas' relationships. At a party she dances with the housing minister and speaks naively bluntly against mendacious politics.
When it turns out that due to a mishap of the Post Costas designs for the competition have not arrived, Scampolo personally takes them to the minister. In the end, Costa and Scampolo found each other.
Production notes

Reviews
"The briskly staged and entertaining comedy thrives on Romy Schneider's play, who, as an insecure and at the same time vital girl, reveals false conventions in her naturalness."
