Schallerhammer (2013)

The former Hammergut Schallerhammer is located on the banks of the Ascha on the western outskirts of Schönsee in the Schwandorf district on State Road 2159 .

The Schönsee administration does not regard Schallerhammer as an independent district of the city of Schönsee . The street that leaves Schönsee in the direction of Gaisthal is called “Am Schallerhammer” until Muggenthal and counts up to house number 25. The address of the former Hammergut “Schallerhammer” is “Am Schallerhammer 4”.

history

In 1387, Schallerhammer was first mentioned in writing as part of the hammer works on the Ascha (from east to west, downstream from the Ascha : Dietersberg , Steinhammer, Schallerhammer, Ober- and Untermuggenthal, Gaisthaler Hammer ). In this document, Schallerhammer was referred to as Schienhammer , which was a hammer mill that processed iron ore and gave the extracted pig iron to “rails” (which was used to describe narrow flat strips at the time) to the processing plants - often in Bohemian: Pfraumberg and Taus . Perhaps this hammer mill was built earlier and initially used local iron deposits. Since the end of the 14th century it has been sourcing iron ore from the Amberg area. Schallerhammer appeared after the 15th century as a tin hammer, d. H. as an iron processing company, but ore was still smelted there at the end of the 16th century. In the 15th century, the construction of new rail hammers was forbidden in order to reduce the production of pig iron . The conversion of the rail hammers into sheet metal hammers, however, was promoted. The Schallerhammer often changed hands. It was shut down during the Thirty Years' War. Efforts by the new owner, Josef Lenk, to put it back into operation from 1771 failed due to the resistance of the city of Schönsee. In the 19th century, a mill was operated with agriculture on the Schallerhammer, from 1874 a glass ribbon, which died in 1958. Today (2012) the Leco company operates a production facility on the Schallerhammer that manufactures glass items.
