Geographical location

The houses of Lindau are isolated and very widely scattered on the slopes of the Mierbachtal between the Lindauer Berg and the eastern foothills of the Stückberg massif. Linguistically, a distinction is made between “Lindau”, these are the houses more to the west, “Vordere Lindau”, these are the houses more south and east, and “ Hintere Lindau ”, these are the houses more north, towards Eslarn . The Hintere Lindau is regarded by the Schönsee administrative community as a separate part of the municipality , while Vordere Lindau and Lindau are combined to form the part of the municipality of Lindau. The Mierbach rises in leaves , but does not flow, like all other bodies of water in this area, to the southeast of the Ascha , but turns to the north. From Lindau it is also called Fahrbach.

history

Lindau is first mentioned in writing around 1520. Lindau initially referred to an unpopulated forest area in which the population of Eslarn had grazing rights. In the 16th century a sawmill was built on the Mierbach, which formed the beginning of the later village of Lindau. Coal burner huts originally stood in the forests of the Lindau Valley. They were burned down at the beginning of the Thirty Years War , but were later rebuilt. In the 18th century, Lindau had a one-class school. Her schoolmaster was a grocer from Eslarn. School lessons were canceled in the summer because many rural children had to work in the house and farm or were hired out as assistants for other farmers. In 1954, Lindau and Polster , both of which previously belonged to the Dietersdorf community, were reclassified to Schönsee. In 1968 there was a border station in Lindau which was subordinate to the Schönsee border police inspection.

Culture and sights

In Lindau there are two inns, opportunities for riding, in summer for horse-drawn carriage rides and in winter for horse-drawn sleigh rides.
