Shame origin

The origin of shame

The pubic origin is in pubic heads . It is a karst spring with an average discharge of 330 liters per second. The springs lie in a large spring pond that merges into a small one. The large pond is about 150 meters long, 35 meters wide and encloses a small island.

Uphill from here, the valley can be followed a lot further, namely it begins at Dörndorf about nine kilometers as the crow flies west-northwest of Schamhaupten, but most sections are permanently dry. An unstable upper course in it directly above the Schambach origin begins at the inlet of the Höllental into the forest valley at the Red Cross and is about 2.3 kilometers long.

course

The Schambach flows to Schamhaupten through the Riedenburger Schambachtal initially to the south. At Sandersdorf it turns east and reaches the Altmannstein market via Neuenhinzenhausen and Sollern . From there, the course of the river is accompanied by State Road 2231 to the north. It flows on through Hexenagger and the village of the same name Schambach. In Riedenburg , the Schambach flows over a rock staircase with a waterfall of over five meters into the city pond, which has a connection to the Altmühl .

Their water quality class is II (moderately polluted).

history

The dry Obertal and the upper reaches of the Schambach up to its left turn from Altmannstein is followed by the Upper German-Raetian Limes on the right edge hills at a distance of mostly less than a kilometer .
