The baggage railcars of the Schleizer Kleinbahn GT 1 and GT 2 were two-axle electric railcars that were in use on the Schleizer Kleinbahn from 1930 to 1969 .

history

When the Bleilochtalsperre was built from 1927 onwards, a connecting railway was required to transport material. The neighboring communities used this opportunity to implement the long-planned railway connection. In 1926 it was decided to build a small train from Schleiz to Saalburg . Schleizer Kleinbahn AG , founded for this purpose, had a public railway built, which was electrified with direct current of 1200 volts and overhead lines.

All traffic was opened on June 28, 1930. On April 1, 1949, the Schleizer Kleinbahn was subordinated to the DR . On June 1, 1969, electrical operation was discontinued.

The vehicles

In 1930 Waggonbau Weimar also delivered two luggage railcars to the Schleizer Kleinbahn. In contrast to the PT 1 and PT 2 motor coaches, they also had normal screw couplings and side buffers for coupling with normal railroad cars, and the Albert coupling was used for coupling with the motor carriages and sidecars .

The luggage railcars were built on a sturdy frame made of profile iron. The wooden structure of the car body was stiffened with profiles. Several ballast weights were arranged in the undercarriage to increase the friction load of the locomotive for operation as a tow car .

The railcars were each equipped with two driver's cabs and a peg bearing drive . The GT 1 was slightly longer than the GT 2; In addition to the luggage compartment, it also had a compartment with 16 wooden slatted seats for passenger transport.

After the takeover of operations by the DR, the vehicles were redesignated, the GT 1 and GT 2 railcars were added to the ET 188.5 series and became ET 188 521 and 522.

After the cessation of electrical operation, the GT 1 luggage railcar arrived at the Dresden Transport Museum .
