The Schleswig-Holstein artist house in Eckernförde has been an artist house in Eckernförde since 1998 . The short name Otte 1 , which was also chosen for the Internet domain, goes back to the address Ottestraße 1 of the Künstlerhaus. There are residencies for visual arts , literature and music award. The Association has been awarding state funds independently since 2010.

The photographs of cobblestones by the artist Heiko Neumeister, taken in 2010 in Eckernförde, were used in 2012 for the book “Self-assertion in the face of the absolute” and were also the subject of an interview in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in 2012 .

The first artist in the EU project “RADIUS research-based art” in Germany in 2008 was Jawad Al Malhi, who started his project “art field research” in the Künstlerhaus Eckernförde.

The first children's book by Carsten Otte "Marte und das Meer" was created in 2013 in the Künstlerhaus Eckernförde.

In 2012 the Spanish Ministry of Education listed the Künstlerhaus in a brochure as one of 258 places in Europe for cultural workers.

Scholarships

Every year a jury of experts awards 27 monthly grants, which are divided among several people. These are granted by the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Culture and are therefore subject to the availability of state funds. Each fellow receives 700 euros per month. Since 2011, applications can only be made using an online form. Projects that deal with the city of Eckernförde and the region are preferred.

The state of Schleswig-Holstein awards residency grants for artists exclusively through the artists' houses in Eckernförde and Lauenburg and the GEDOK Lübeck.

Apartments for scholarship holders

The Künstlerhaus is located in an old brick building in downtown Eckernförde not far from the Baltic Sea. The building is owned by the city of Eckernförde, which had the artist house renovated in 2014. Four furnished studios / apartments with kitchen and bathroom are available in the Künstlerhaus for the scholarship holders. The courtyard and the garden are shared. The Künstlerhaus Eckernförde has an exhibition and event room on the ground floor. The support association "Schleswig-Holsteinisches Künstlerhaus eV" is responsible for running the house and also organizes contacts with other cultural workers.

In 2014, the city of Eckernförde invested € 45,000 in the renovation of the house. Among other things, the outer wall of the exhibition room on the ground floor was breached, so that a large amount of daylight now falls into the room from the north side.

history

The Künstlerhaus Eckernförde has existed as a state institution and successor to the Künstlerhaus in Selk since 1996. Before it was used by artists, the building was converted for two years with funds from the Landeskulturstiftung for 400,000 DM. The official opening took place on April 17, 1998.

The city of Eckernförde has made the building rent-free since 1996.
