The dipsacus laciniatus ( Dipsacus laciniatus ), also laciniate carding machine or lobed card called, is a plant from the genus of the carding machines ( Dipsacus ) in the subfamily of Dipsacaceae ( Dipsacoideae ). In Austria it is considered to be native, but in Germany it is a naturalized neophyte . The slit-leaf teasel is similar to the wild teasel ( Dipsacus fullonum ).

features

The Schlitzblatt-Carde is a biennial or perennial hapaxanthe plant that reaches heights of 50 to 120, but not infrequently also over 300 cm. The stems are thick prickly . The stem leaves are fused in pairs at the base in a bowl-shaped manner (water collecting basin, so-called phytotelmen), pinnately fissured and bristly ciliate at the edge. The bracts are elongated and stand out (in contrast to the wild cardoon , Dipsacus fullonum , in which they rise arching). The cylindrical flower heads are conical. In contrast to those of the wild cardoon, the flowers are white.

Flowering time is from July to August.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.

Occurrence

The Schlitzblatt-Karde occurs in warm to warm temperate Europe and West Asia in fresh to moist ruderal places and forest edges. It occurs on moist to fresh, nutrient-rich and base-rich loam and clay soils. It thrives in Central Europe in societies of the Artemisietea class. It originally occurs in France, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Switzerland, Italy, Yugoslavia, Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran , in the Caucasus and Central Asia, but also in Spain, Israel and Denmark. In North America it is a neophyte.

In Austria the species occurs rarely in the federal states of Burgenland , Lower Austria , North Tyrol and Vienna as well as inconsistently in Carinthia , Upper Austria and Styria in the colline altitude range and is considered endangered. It occurs here at the edges of the forest, in floodplains, on ruderal sites and in cemeteries.

use

The Schlitzblatt-Karde is rarely used as an ornamental plant in natural gardens. The fruit stands are used for wreaths and dry bouquets.
