The Schlossberg is a 522.9  m above sea level. NHN high mountain at the west end of the Schönbuch . It is located in Herrenberg in the Boeblingen district in Baden-Württemberg . The highest point is the summit of the Kanonenbuckels in the area of ​​the castle ruins.

On the summit region is the ruin of Herrenberg Castle with the Schlossbergturm observation tower , the Herrenberg Collegiate Church is on the south-west slope and a provost's office on the south-south-west slope - striking buildings of the city.

The Schlossberg rises on the western Schönbuchtrauf as well as on the western edge of the Herrenberg Forest and the Schönbuch Nature Park . Its summit is 370 m northeast of the market square of the Herrenberg town center, which almost entirely surrounds the mountain. Only to the northeast does the landscape lead over the narrow ridge at Kirchhalde (at least  510  m ) to the Alter Rain ridge (approx.  555  m ), through which the Schönbuch tunnel (A 81) runs.

The Aischbach , a tributary of the Ammer, which rises 2.1 km southwest of the summit on the outskirts, flows west past the Schlossberg and through Herrenberg .

Natural allocation

The Schlossberg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land (No. 10), in the main unit Schönbuch and Glemswald (104) and in the subunit Schönbuch (104.1) to the outer west of the natural area Südlicher Schönbuch (104.12); it is connected to the main part of this natural area via the elevation on the Kirchhalde and the Alten Rain.

The landscape falls north to north-west into the natural area of ​​the peripheral areas of the Schwippe bay (122.47), to the south-west into the natural area of ​​the inclined plane of Kuppingen (122.49) and to the south to south-east into the natural area of ​​the eastern Korngäurand (122.42); all three count in the main unit group Neckar and Tauber-Gäuplatten (12) and in the main unit Obere Gäu ( 122) to the subunit Oberes Gäu (122.4).

Protected areas

On the Castle Hill are parts of the protected landscape Schönbuchrand between Herrenberg and federal highway 14 with Herrnberger Castle Hill ( CDDA -No 324248;. 1974 reported; 1.2297  square kilometers large). The Schönbuch bird sanctuary (VSG no. 7420-441; 153.6203 km²) and the fauna-flora-habitat area Schönbuch (FFH no. 7420-341; 112.4713 km²) extend up to the elevation at Kirchhalde .

Buildings

On the summit region of the Schlossberg are the ruins of Herrenberg Castle , whose documented history begins in 1220. In the castle complex, on the stump of the former powder tower, stands the Schlossbergturm observation tower , construction of which began in 1957. From its viewing platform, the view falls in particular down to the Herrenberg on the mountain and, among other things, to the Swabian Alb .

On the south-west slope of the mountain is the Herrenberg collegiate church , built between 1276 and 1493, and close to it on the south-south-west slope, the Herrenberg Propstei, built in 1439/1440. They are all striking buildings in the city. On the elevation north-east of the mountain near the Kirchhalde there is a water tank and a transmission tower .

Transport links and hiking

Federal road 14 leads through Herrenberg, which is located on Schlossberg . The short Benzstrasse branches off from this road north of the mountain in the village . This street meets the merging street of Stuttgarter Straße , Am Joachimsberg and Kuhsteige , which runs through residential areas mainly to the northeast up to the Rotes Meer hikers' car park, which is located on the heights of the Kirchhalde . This is followed by the narrow road includes Schlossberg at the southwest for lying on the summit area of the castle hill Parking Schlossberg leads. From there it is a few meters to the castle cellar and, past it, to walk to the castle mountain tower.

The Martinusweg and the Roter Punkt, Herrenberg – Naturfreundehaus trail , which runs from Herrenberg to the Am Schönbuch Naturfreundehaus to the west of the nearby Stellberg , lead over the Schlossberg . The Jerg Ratgeb sculpture trail leads up from Herrenberg .
