history

The name of the choir is derived from the swan castle on the Zwickau swan pond, which was demolished in 1993 .

On November 6, 1963, Gerald Sulzbach, a student at the Pedagogical Institute in Zwickau, founded the school choir of the Diesterweg Oberschule in the POS Adolph Diesterweg in Schedewitz . A new chapter in choral history began with 12 children in 3rd and 4th grade, which was to be followed by 50 successful years. Within a few days there were 60 registrations for the new choir. A first choir camp took place in Uebigau as early as 1964, and in 1966 the choir made its first major performance outside of Zwickau. The choir was renamed Pionierchor August Bebel . In 1970 the choir took part in the Workers' Festival in Rostock and in 1972 in Schwerin and was awarded the Little Robert Schumann Prize in 1971. The first foreign partner relationships were established in 1973, e. B. to the Czech Jablonec and 1976 to the children's choir Radost in Prague . Other major events were a concert tour to the People's Republic of Poland in 1977 and to Kiev and Volgograd in 1980 .

In 1977 the choir moved into the swan castle on the Zwickau swan pond, which at the time was called Pionierhaus Wilhelm Pieck . The number of members increased and the choir was divided into a boys' choir and a children's choir. In 1978 Gerald Sulzbach received support from Jochen Wittur († August 13, 2012), who later moved to Berlin (including the Canzonetta children's choir). In 1982 a record production and radio recordings followed in Leipzig . The choir camps in Einsiedel or Templin and later in Frauenstein and Klingenthal were also popular . These were used for extensive rehearsals and for preparations for upcoming concerts and performances. In 1985 Gerald Sulzbach had to leave the choir. He lives in Nicaragua today . The boys' choir was dissolved and Jochen Wittur continued the children's choir with the support of Ulf Firke. The August Bebel pioneering choir was successful within the GDR , and its first television appearances followed. In 1987 the choir won the Silver Greif award at the children's song festival in Rostock and in 1988 it took part in the pioneer meeting in Karl-Marx-Stadt . At the turn of 1989, Steffen Klaumünzner took over the direction of the choir, until 1993 with the support of Ulrich Kies.

In 1990 a concert tour followed in the twin city of Dortmund . The choir was renamed again to Schwanenschloß Kinder- und Jugendchor Zwickau . In 1991 the choir took part in the International Children's Choir Festival in Halle and in October of that year in another radio production. In 1992 the choir had to give up the premises of the Swan Castle and moved to the Marienthal leisure center . In addition to other concerts, a concert tour to Munich , Strasbourg and Grenoble followed in 1993 and a concert tour to the USA in 1997 . The flexibility of the choir was demonstrated by the madrigal circle Schwanenschloß Zwickau ( chamber choir ) founded in 1998 , an initially mixed choir and since 2001 a girls and women choir of equal voices , which has also won international competitions under the name of the Schwanenschloß vocal ensemble . In 2001 the "Swan Castle Choir" undertook a concert and competition tour to Grado in Italy, from which it returned with a silver diploma from the 3rd Isola Del Sole International Choir Festival . In December 2013 the festival concert of the choir on the occasion of its 50th anniversary took place in the concert and ball house Neue Welt in Zwickau .
