The Schwedeneck class is a series of three multi-purpose test boats of class 748 for the Wehrtechnische Dienststelle 71 (WTD 71) in Eckernförde .

General

As a replacement for the test boats Adolf Bestelmeyer , Friedrich Voge , Rudolf Diesel and Hans Christian Oersted built in the 1940s , three "test boats, medium" (type of ship according to the ship number list ) were commissioned from Fr. Lürssen Werft as general contractor . Subcontractors were the Kröger shipyard , the Elsflether shipyard and Nobiskrug . A fourth ship of this class was no longer realized.

The hull is made of steel and divided into nine compartments by eight bulkheads . For better maneuvering, transverse thruster control systems with 150 kW each are installed in the fore and aft . The ships are used in a variety of ways and take the necessary equipment on board in containers . The fixed equipment includes a ship's crane , a swiveling A-frame at the stern, a pinasse and accommodations for embarked test personnel.

The type ship 748/01 was launched on October 14, 1986 at the Kröger shipyard (hull number 1531) and was in service for the WTD 71 from October 20, 1987 to February 2011. The state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania bought the Schwedeneck in 2010 and had it converted into a research ship at the Peene shipyard in Wolgast .

The subcontract for the third ship 748/03 initially went to Nobiskrug, but since this shipyard had to file for bankruptcy, the Helmsand was then also built at the Kröger shipyard (hull number 1532), was launched there on July 31, 1987 and was launched on Commissioned February 11, 1988 for the WTD 71.

The three ships are named after branches of the WTD 71:
