Sean Daniel

Sean Peter Daniel (born August 15, 1951 in New York ) is an American film producer .

Life

Sean Daniel grew up in New York as the son of Beverly and Jeremy Daniel. He studied film directing at the California Institute of the Arts and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1973 . He then returned to New York, where he worked briefly at The Village Voice .

He then switched to the film industry and in 1975 worked as an associate producer on the documentary Women in the Brothel . In 1976 he was assistant director in the making of the film The Great Texas Dynamite Chase .

From 1976 he worked for Universal Studios , where he worked his way up from assistant to head of production. He was involved in the making of films such as I believe a horse kicks me (1978), Missing (1982), Gorillas in the Fog (1988), Field of Dreams and Do the Right Thing (both 1989). In 1989 he left Universal and worked for Geffen Films for 9 months before setting up his own film production company as a producer. His first own production was the comedy Reine Glückssache , published in 1991 . A year later he founded the production company Alphaville Films with James Jacks . In 1993 they had their first hit with the production of the action film Hard Goals . The subsequent productions Confusion - Sommer der Ausflippten and Tombstone also proved to be great successes.

The 1995 produced films The Village of the Damned and Mallrats were panned by criticism and accordingly flopped at the box office.

Daniel and Jacks were best known as producers of the franchise for The Mummy (1999). After the success of the film, they both produced the films The Mummy Returns , The Scorpion King , The Mummy: The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption .

His long-time production partner James Jacks, who had left Alphaville Films in 2004, passed away in January 2014.
