The Hunter's Hour (Original Title: The Hunted ) is an American action film directed by William Friedkin from 2003 .

action

Aaron Hallam serves as a killing specialist in a US special unit. For a mission in Kosovo , in which he kills the leader of a Serbian unit that murdered numerous civilians, he receives the Silver Star . The secret service later uses Hallam as a hit man, but loses control of him.

Hallam illegally walks away and murders some hunters near Silver Falls , Oregon . Armed only with a knife, he kills them and eviscerates them. The FBI is investigating under the direction of Agent Abby Durrell.

Since the murders took place in the forest, the FBI turns to the tracker LT Bonham, the (as we learn later) former trainer of Hallam. In retirement, he lives in a remote area in the northwest. He received several letters from Hallam, but left them unanswered.

Bonham tracks down Hallam alone in the forest and a life and death fight ensues. Surprisingly, Durrell's team shows up and incapacitates Hallam with a tranquilizer dart. When Hallam is in custody, members of the military with judicial powers appear and place Hallam under their jurisdiction. Because of his knowledge of secret operations, he should not be charged. Since he suffers from paranoia and has become uncontrollable, they want to liquidate him with poison. During the transport there is a fight in the vehicle which then crashes. Hallam manages to escape. Bonham sees this on the television news and begins the hunt again - this time in town. Together with Durrell he finds Hallam at his former partner Irene. But Hallam manages to escape again.

He takes refuge in the woods around Portland. It comes to the final fight in which Bonham finally wins the upper hand over his former student and kills him. In the final scene Bonham can be seen in his house in British Columbia . He burns the letters in which Hallam reported on the crimes he committed for the state.

Reviews

The lexicon of the international film wrote: “One-dimensional action film, which hardly reflects the emotional stresses of the soldier programmed to kill, but generally portrays human relationships as cold and merciless. Staging quite remarkable in the long duels. "
