Sebastian Curtius

Sebastian Curtius (born November 22, 1620 in Kassel as Sebastian Kurtz ; † May 30, 1684 in Marburg ) was a German Reformed theologian , clergyman and university professor .

Life

Curtius attended the Kassel Pedagogy , then the University of Kassel , embarked on the career of a clergyman and in 1639 became Candidatus ministerii in Kassel. In 1640 he left his hometown to study at the universities of Marburg and Strasbourg . From there he went via Zurich to the University of Basel , where he began studying in 1643. He subsequently worked in 1644 in Leiden , in Geneva , and a trip to France , he was on 17 November 1645, the Basel University for Dr. theol. PhD .

Curtius was first Hessian general staff preacher on the Rhine in 1647 , but followed on September 1, 1647 a call as professor of the Hebrew language at the University of Kassel. In addition, on October 1, 1647, he was appointed rector of the city school in Kassel and he was also Ephorus of the university. When the universities of Marburg and Kassel were merged again and the location in Kassel was closed, Curtius was given the second full professorship in theology in Marburg on June 16, 1653. In addition, he became pastor of the Reformed congregation and scholarship holder of the Marburg scholarship institution .

Curtius rose to be the first professor of theology in 1661, resigned from the scholarship, took part in the Kassler Religious Discussion and was rector of the University of Marburg. He also held the office of rector in 1659 and 1683. In 1668, 1671, 1673, 1679 and 1683 he was dean of the theological faculty and in 1673 deputy of the University of Marburg in the state parliament in Kassel.
